From an early age, Kaylen has been deeply drawn to people. She is fascinated by their histories, their lived experiences, and their aspirations for the future. Her belief that every individual holds inherent strengths and the capacity for healing naturally guided her toward the counselling profession. She is continuously inspired by the trust clients place in her and by the profound impact of feeling heard. With many years of experience volunteering and working with children, she remains moved by their creativity, resilience, and positive outlook on life.
Supporting Stress, Anxiety, Trauma, and Life Transitions
Kaylin is passionate about supporting individuals of all ages who are navigating stress, anxiety, trauma, grief, loss, and major life transitions. She views these challenges as opportunities for clients to deepen their self-awareness and self-compassion. Her interest in the mind-body connection informs her approach, emphasizing the role of embodied awareness in fostering growth and healing.
A Person-Centered Foundation, Tailored to Each Client
Her work is grounded in person-centered therapy, rooted in the belief that a strong, trusting therapeutic relationship is essential for meaningful change. She thoughtfully integrates additional approaches including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), strengths-based practices, narrative therapy, solution-focused strategies, and mindfulness techniques, depending on each client’s unique needs and goals.
As an student counsellor, she is dedicated to lifelong learning. She is actively expanding her knowledge in trauma-informed and somatic approaches to better support a diverse range of individuals. Her priority is always to align her therapeutic style with the client’s values, lived experiences, and personal aspirations.
Integrating Nature, Creativity, and Play
In addition to traditional counselling, she is interested in offering walk-and-talk sessions and nature-based therapy, recognizing the grounding and restorative qualities of the natural world. When working with children, she enjoys incorporating play and creative expression as tools for connection, communication, and emotional exploration.
Lessons Learned: Witnessing Human Resilience
Her work continually reinforces the belief that every person carries unique strengths that can guide them through life’s most difficult moments. She is consistently inspired by the resilience clients demonstrate as they navigate challenges and pursue healing. She considers it a profound honour to be trusted with people’s vulnerabilities and to walk beside them on their wellness journeys.
Island Roots and a Deep Love for Nature
Originally born in Kelowna, Kaylin later lived in Prince George before settling in Nanaimo at the age of nine. She proudly identifies as an “island girl” and feels most at home when surrounded by nature, whether hiking through forests, exploring mountains, walking along the ocean, or tending to her garden.
Life Beyond Counselling
Outside of her professional work, she enjoys an active, outdoor lifestyle. Mountain biking, hiking, camping, exploring new places, and swimming in the ocean are all regular parts of her routine. She also values spending quality time with family and friends and growing vegetables and flowers in her backyard garden.
The Heart of the Work
What Kaylin appreciates most about her profession is the opportunity to offer a safe, supportive space where individuals can reflect, process, and pursue meaningful change. She does not take this responsibility lightly. She finds deep motivation in witnessing clients strengthen their relationships (with themselves or others), become more attuned to their bodies, understand their patterns, and make choices that support a fulfilling, values-based life.
Her approach is grounded in compassion, curiosity, and genuine respect for each person’s unique story.
