I believe CBT works best when it is structured and evidence-based, while still being flexible enough to reflect how each person thinks, feels, processes information, and experiences the world.
About Angus
Hi, I’m Angus Valleau. I am a Canadian Certified Counsellor with a Master’s degree in Clinical Counselling and a bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology.
My practice is grounded in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) and guided by a trauma-informed, neurodiversity-affirming approach. I work with children, adolescents, and adults, including many autistic and ADHD clients. I have a particular interest in helping people experiencing anxiety, depression, OCD, trauma-related concerns, emotional regulation difficulties, stress, and challenges with executive functioning.
CBT helps us understand how thoughts, emotions, physical sensations, and behaviours influence one another. Together, we can identify the patterns contributing to the difficulties you are experiencing and develop practical strategies for creating meaningful change. Depending on your goals, our work may include developing coping and regulation skills, gradually approaching feared or avoided situations, increasing helpful activities, examining unhelpful thinking patterns, or practising new skills between sessions.
I appreciate the structure and clarity CBT can provide, but I do not believe therapy should feel rigid or standardized. People communicate, learn, and process experiences differently. I adapt the language, pace, and methods we use so that treatment is accessible, collaborative, and responsive to your individual needs. This can be especially important for neurodivergent clients, who may benefit from concrete strategies, visual or experiential learning, movement, and thoughtful adaptations to traditional CBT.
My background in kinesiology also shapes how I understand mental health. Thoughts and emotions do not occur separately from the body. Sleep, movement, sensory experiences, physical activation, and nervous-system responses can all affect how we feel and function. When relevant, I help clients recognize these connections and incorporate practical mind-body strategies into treatment.
Not everyone wants to sit in a room and talk extensively about their feelings—and that is okay. Therapy can involve conversation, but it can also be active, skills-based, creative, and focused on helping you make changes in your day-to-day life. My goal is to offer a respectful and encouraging space where we can identify what matters to you, create clear goals, and work toward them together.
